Choosing the right filler product for you requires the understanding of the area or areas which need balancing.  The biggest difference among the following FDA approved hyaluronic acid fillers is thickness.  A thicker (or “higher G-prime”) filler is more viscous, allowing for building up volume in a deeper layer such as the high cheekbone.  These areas have to fight gravity and really support the face.  Contrasting this are superficial lines or lips which require a thinner (or “lower G-prime”) filler as the product is placed nearer to the skin surface and must spread evenly.

Another thing to consider is that some fillers are more hydrophilic or “water loving” than others.  Juvederm® products have a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid therefore draw more water to the area treated, i.e. more swelling.  This is great for a pretty pout but would be dreadful in the undereye region!

Lastly, longevity and cost must be considered.  In general, the thicker the product, the longer it takes for the body to naturally break down.  Supportive cheek and jaw treatments on average last for 18 to 24 months, but have been proven to last for up to 12 years!  Superficial wrinkles that must be treated with a softer product may give you a 6 to 8 month result.  Emergency Fix is able to offer patients filler starting at $600 per syringe (1 milliliter).  You, in consultation with Dr. Bolton, will determine how many syringes will be needed to fully correct the areas that concern you.  The price per syringe will decrease based of the amount needed.

Revanesse

Revanesse Winter Haven FL

Launched in January 2018, Revanesse Versa® is one of the newest fillers approved by the FDA for the cosmetic treatment of facial wrinkles and creases. It uses a wet milling technology to create spherical and uniform particles which, according to the brand’s website, provide the perfect balance between smoothness and volume. One of Revanesse’s advantages is that it tends to cause less bruising and swelling than other HA fillers.  More information can be found at https://revanesse.com/us

Juvéderm

Juvederm Lips

Allergan’s Juvéderm® is the world’s number-one selling collection of dermal fillers and includes many different hyaluronic acid fillers to suit your every aging concern.  A few carried at Emergency Fix are…

Juvéderm XC® – First approved by the FDA back in 2006, Juvéderm XC smooths facial folds and lines around the nose and mouth for up to a year. The XC in the name refers to the inclusion of lidocaine which reduces the amount of pain involved.

Juvéderm Ultra XC® – Ultra XC is an injectable gel for temporarily adding fullness to the lips for up to a year. It is also approved for smoothing and correcting moderate to severe parenthesis lines such as smile lines around the nose and mouth.

Liquid Facelift Winter Haven

Juvéderm Volbella XC® – Volbella was one of the most recent fillers to be approved by the FDA and is indicated for both lip augmentation and the correction of perioral rhytids (fine lines around the mouth) in adults over the age of 21. Volbella contains a proprietary cross-linking technology called Vycross, which stabilizes the filler molecules and gives it a certain thickness to prevent the body from breaking it down too quickly. This means it’s able to provide more lift for a longer amount of time. It also has a lower HA concentration, which results in less immediate swelling.

Juvéderm Voluma XC® – Also known as the ‘liquid facelift,’ Voluma was the first non-surgical, hyaluronic acid filler to be FDA-approved for filling and plumping hollowed cheeks for adults over the age of 21. Voluma also contains Vycross technology and can last for up to 18-24 months.

Pain is usually mild and sometimes moderate after filler injections. There are areas which can be quite painful like the chin and the lips.  Tylenol is completely safe to use post-treatment.

Pain Care

Apply a cool compress for 10 minutes every hour on the day of treatment (do not apply ice directly on your skin). A cool compress applied regularly for the first 24 hours after injections may help to reduce the amount of swelling. You can consider taking Arnica supplements for three days prior to and up to one week after treatment to reduce the swelling. Dr. Bolton’s recommended dosage is 5 pellets of Arnica dissolved under the tongue 3 times daily.  Boiron Arnica can be purchased on Amazon.  Also consider asking Dr. Bolton about the fabulous line of products she carries from Post-Love, which include a Chapstick containing Arnica and CBD for ultimate pain and bruising relief!

Swelling & Bruising Care

Reviewing the results of dermal filler should be performed at 4 weeks (except for cosmetic emergencies like infection or vascular occlusions, which should be reviewed immediately).  Following up prior to 4 weeks is not useful as there is often a small amount of swelling still present, so the results cannot be judged until this has resolved. This is particularly important with regards to symmetry. Symmetry should not be reviewed prior to 4 weeks.

Follow Up Scheduling

Retreatment should occur at any time between 1-6 months after a first treatment. Once peak filler has been achieved, and the patient is on maintenance injections, they might have filler once per year.

Specific Treatment Area Aftercare

Lip dermal filler aftercare needs a special mention.  When the lips are injected, the upper lip tends to swell much more than the lower lip and often patients think that their upper lip has had too much filler injected into it. Once the swelling calms down, they realize this is not the case. The typical ratio that most people choose for their lip proportion is 40% in the upper and 60% in the lower, so most likely the upper lip is going to be smaller than the lower lip once the swelling resolves.  Pain is also most common with lips because of a couple of reasons.  First, the lips are constantly in motion making the new plump more noticeable.  Also the former inner wet surface has now been flipped outward, meeting the new dry air.  Keeping the new lips moisturized is clutch!

Headaches are common after temple filler injections. Often the veins in the temple protrude and become more obvious temporarily after fillers.

Patients receiving jawline fillers most often note lumpiness along the jawline. Rest assured this will resolve over the few weeks post injection as the filler integrates with the skin

Lumpiness is also a common issue after forehead fillers due to the injections requiring a more superficial placement for safe application. This area also requires patience as several treatments may be required to achieve the best results on the forehead.

If you experience any post-treatment concerns or think of any questions, please do not hesitate to text or call Dr. Bolton!
